Upwork is a platform used by many freelancers. It connects freelancers to clients. For example, a client would post a job, for a full-time data entry clerk, from either a particular location or any location with the language requirements. A freelancer would then assess the job posting, and apply if they meet the requirements. Now Upwork doesn't only have jobs for data entry clerks. It can be anything. From long-term jobs to short terms and even gigs. There are even commission-based jobs. This is probably my favourite of all the freelancer platforms because I believe it caters to beginners a lot.
So, how can I join?
Registering with Upwork is very easy. All you need to is sign up, and create a freelancer account. The process is very easy. You will need to upload a very clear and professional photo of yourself, to upload, so get that camera ready.
Can I use my phone or do I need my computer?
So for the majority of jobs that are there, you will need access to a computer, but there are jobs on Upwork that only requires a functioning smartphone.
Which Countries are allowed to join Upwork?
Any person from any country is allowed to work on Upwork. The only downside is, some jobs specifically ask for freelancers from a particular country.
How do I get paid?
Ah yes, finally the question that I know you're eager to know. Upwork uses a couple payment platforms such as Payoneer and PayPal. I would recommend Payoneer, for that reason that I'll explain here.
Is Upwork free?
Now that question has two answers, yes and no. YES, you are free to join and work, but when it's time to payout, you'll see where there is a NO. Upwork takes a 20% charge, for the first $500 bill. When your bills are between $500.01 and $10,000.00, they take a 10% charge. When you exceed $10,001.00, you will be charged a 5% fee.
Now do not allow the fees, to stop you from joining, as I really do believe it would benefit you a lot. We all have some talent or skills, that I am sure would be useful to someone and could benefit you by providing an income. If you're not sure about what you can do, there are a lot of Virtual Assistant jobs that need a lot of workers right now. Or when searching, look for entry-level jobs. Especially if you are new to freelancing, look for entry-level jobs to get familiar with.
Make sure you create an amazing profile, as clients can search for freelancers, and contact them for a position they believe the freelancer would be interested in. If you are not intrigued by the idea of clients contacting you personally, you can make your account invisible. This would only allow, the clients and jobs you interact with to see your freelancer account.
If there is no other site I would recommend, it is this one. Good Luck to future freelancers and happy employment.
